Athena, the Barn Owl Observing

A Barn Owl's face fills the frame in close-up, its heart-shaped white facial disk rimmed in gold and its dark eyes fixed directly on the viewer. Brushed linework builds the fine radiating feathers of the facial disk in delicate strokes, while denser, mottled gold-and-brown plumage covers the shoulders below. The intense, forward stare and soft pale coloring give the portrait a striking, almost luminous presence.
