Surf Line Flock

A large flock of Sanderlings, more than twenty birds, streams along a wide sandy beach right at the edge of the surf, each bird caught in its own small variation of the running, stopping, and probing motion the species is known for. It's a larger, busier composition than the artist's usual single-bird studies, built instead around the rhythm and repetition of a whole flock moving together. Brushed linework is used sparingly across the many small figures to suggest feather pattern without overworking any one bird, while glazing technique unifies the wide stretch of wet sand and surf that ties the flock together.
