Running Takeoff

An American Coot bursts into a running takeoff across the water, wings raised high and bright yellow legs kicking up a spray of droplets with every stride. The dark, sooty plumage and stark white bill give the bird a graphic, high-contrast silhouette against the plain background, while the splashing feet add real energy to the pose.
