Mixed Company

A Marbled Godwit strides forward across a pale, wet-sand flat, its long pink-and-black bill leading the way, while a Black-bellied Plover in non-breeding plumage stands apart in the middle distance, each bird trailing its own long shadow. Faint reflections echo beneath both birds on the thin sheet of water, giving the piece a quiet symmetry despite the two species keeping their distance.
