Gallery Los Olivos, October -December 2022

New paintings in Gallery Los Olivos for the last quarter of 2022, all acrylic on canvas. Clockwise from upper left, a Red-Tailed Hawk photographed out the door of my studio, Bobcats lounging on the front deck, a crow interacting with a crab on East Beach, some egrets and a heron at Hendry’s Beach, and some 8″ x 8″ birdies that make good gifts.

Whimbrel & Godwit at Hendry’s Beach, Santa Barbara

Whimbrel & Godwit on Hendry’s Beach, 16 ” x 20″ acrylic on panel

This one’s using a technique new to me: painting with fluid acrylics diluted to watercolor consistency (very watery) on a clay-coated panel known as Aquaboard. Once coated with matt acrylic varnish you get a durable non-reflective surface that doesn’t need to be glassed. I’ll be trying same technique in the smoother-finished Clayboard, and on a primed wood panel also manufactured by Ampersand.

It will be hanging in Gallery 113 in downtown Santa Barbara through May.
